Jim Blackburn is an environmental lawyer, planner, writer and poet. In a recent book, "Earth Church", he and his co-author, Isabelle Scurry Chapman, explored the spiritual connections among living beings. In this narrative and poem, he discusses the need to put yourself in the place of other creatures, including the black-capped vireo, and to stand up for their protection.
