Monk Parakeet

The monk parakeet is a bird native to Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina that was introduced to the US in the late 1960s largely through escapes from the pet trade. As an exotic, some naturalists reject it as unsuitable for local ecosystems, while others are impressed at the bird’s resourceful adaptability to its new world.
