Lee Ann Linam, a former Texas Parks and Wildlife wildlife biologist who served on the whooping crane recovery team, sees several major stages in the bird's recovery. Those steps included first, controlling hunting and wetland loss, then promoting captive breeding and establishing new populations, and most recently, addressing problems with power and fence line collisions, wind turbine impacts, and erosion, mangrove expansion and marsh loss due to climate change and sea level rise.
