Krystyna Jurzykowski, the co-founder of Fossil Rim Wildlife Center near Glen Rose, Texas, has been deeply involved in protection and breeding of a number of endangered species, including the Southern white rhino. The rhino is heavily poached in its native African range to supply demand in Asia and the Middle East that is based in deeply embedded cultural traditions. In that sense, Ms Jurzykowski explains here how much of conservation is challenged with changing, and updating, our societies' most treasured beliefs and stories.
