Dr. Gary Garrett is a research biologist at the University of Texas, and formerly worked at Texas Parks and Wildlife, where he was Director of Watershed Conservation. He has had a long interest in the protection and recovery of desert fish, and here tells the story of building a cienega at Balmorhea State Park to preserve the very rare Pecos gambusia.
