Bill Stransky is the executive director of Texas RICE, short for Rice Industry Coalition for the Environment. He and the group have been active in promoting waterfowl populations and restoring prairie and wetland habitat along the Texas coast, including projects on private lands and in public preserves, such as the Anahuac, Aransas, Brazoria, Big Boggy, and other refuges. Here he tracks the rapid collapse of Texas populations of lesser snow geese and specklebelly geese, and the near-disappearance of the greater and lesser Canada goose, over the past generation.
