Steve Gittings is a reef ecologist who did biological oceanographic research at Texas A&M University, then served as the first manager of the Flower Gardens Banks National Marine Sanctuary, and, since 1998, has worked as Chief Scientist at the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries at NOAA.
