G.P. Schmahl is a scientist heavily engaged in study and conservation of coral reefs. He served as Superintendent of the Flower Gardens Banks National Marine Sanctuary for the better part of the first two decades of the 21st century, seeing through a major expansion of the Sanctuary in 2021.
